Tai chi is the most popular exercise in the world today. It is relatively new in the Western world, but it is becoming more and more popular. The two thousand year old Chinese martial art is quite simple and has many advantages.
I have been taking tai chi classes for about a year now and it has helped me a lot with my anxiety and stress. Stress has been a big factor in my life and I have always tried to think positively. I now try many alternative treatments to manage my stress, including meditation and tai chi. Both work very well for me.
A friend introduced me to tai chi. I have to say I didn't know much about it before. He told me that it did nothing to help him manage his depression. His name is John and he has many problems in his life that not only affect his self-esteem but also make him very depressed at times. John has been attending tai chi classes for almost two years and seems to have become a new man. For whatever reason, he didn't tell people about what he was doing. One evening I mentioned to him that he had been much happier in recent months. That's when he talked to me about tai chi. He also asked if I would like to attend classes with him, to which I duly agreed. I'm very glad we had this conversation because I can also get depressed quite easily.
Maybe it's a mind thing because I know I'll be attending tai chi once a week, but now I'm very able to deal with stress and I'm much less anxious than I used to be.
People have also commented that I look much healthier and even younger than before. This is supposed to be another benefit of tai chi, it helps delay the aging process. That's good for someone like me because people always thought I was about five years older than I actually am.
Other health benefits of tai chi:
It helps keep people mobile into old age
It helps improve balance
Helps reduce asthma
It helps people recover from certain injuries
It helps strengthen the immune system
It helps lower blood pressure
In conclusion, if you are like me and are a person who is constantly stressed and often depressed, tai chi could be the answer for you. Try it and it could change your life.
It goes without saying that tai chi is not for everyone and I would also recommend meditation, reflexology, aromatherapy and hypnotherapy.
I am a person who likes to try new things because I am always trying to improve my life. I want to live long, happy and stress free. Using these forms of alternative treatment is helping me achieve this at the moment.
