Cats Bonding With Their Owners

There are plenty of experts who say that cats are fiercely independent animals. The same experts state that cats choose to associate with humans as a survival strategy. Although many argue with this statement, there are many who also agree—though those who do tend to be those in the percentile who disapprove of cats.

Anyone who has owned a cat will tell you that cats are great at connecting with people, even if they are very specific. Normally, the cat chooses someone in the household to bond with. You'll know when your cat wants to bond with you because she'll jump on your lap looking for attention or snuggle up to you at night while you sleep. Purring is a powerful sign of affection, especially in cats trying to bond.

Although many experts have tried to figure it out, no one really knows why cats choose a particular person to bond with. It could be the behavior of the individual, the voice or simply how the person treats the cat. Maybe it can be that the individual is really gentle, or maybe a little more forceful - it brings out the best in the cat.

There are many ways researchers have tried to grasp this topic, one of which is psychological. Some say that cats connect with someone through a "psychic aura" that is compatible with both the person and the cat. If a cat feels that someone is giving it a bad vibe, it will simply ignore it. While this may be true for some, most cat owners will tell you it couldn't be further from the truth.

While there are plenty of theories and speculations, no one really knows why cats bond with humans. Apart from cats and their natural instinct for physical survival, little or no evidence is available. Those who own cats know that cats crave attention, simply to feel needed. They love to be pampered by their owners and will shower you with attention and affection if you give them the chance.

Those new to cat ownership may find bonding very different. Cats are different from other animals, including dogs, in that they bond with each other. Different breeds of cats bond differently with their owners, although most prefer affection and attention. The more time you spend around your cat, the more it will bond with you. Over the years, you'll find that the bond you form with your pet becomes very strong - and simply cannot be broken.
